Colya

By David Drucker

I just learned from Facebook, of all places, that on Tuesday morning, Colya Kaminiarz, a fellow that I had met through ApplesBC, the local Apple User Group, was found dead in his apartment. He died in his sleep but the exact cause of death is not known yet. He was a Respiratory Therapist, and I would frequently read of his travels, sometimes via helicopter, saving someone’s life here or in Toronto. He was a charming and easygoing guy, and one of the first friends I made after moving here. Recently we traded IMs and emails, meaning to get together for coffee. I regret we didn’t get to spend much more time together, and will miss his face and name on my Buddy lists. Facebook will have some information about a service to celebrate his life, and I’ll try and post here as well.

Wow, I am sorry to hear about this news regarding your friend. It’s good that things like Facebook exist so people who mostly know each other online can find out news about the offline world.

sorry to hear about this, david. if he was one of the first people you made friends with here, he was, maybe, a bit of a milestone for you?

    Thanks, Sooz and Isabella.

It was indeed a real shock, and all day today it sort of reminded me how we should try and reconnect with people, even if at first our schedules don’t seem to mesh.

Who knows, but you may not have another chance. Strange way to think about life, but I guess in some cases, it is very true.

Thought I’d insert a link to his obituary, posted on his own blog. A real shame to lose this guy, even before we’d had a chance to become old friends.
